I know Philly gets a bad rap in the media, as a city of holligans, who throw batteries at players, snowballs at Santa, beat their wives, ect.. but last nite, when the Phils won, the fans went crazy.. parting in the streets, and there were NO ARRESTS! No car fires, vandalism, no nonsense that you see in other cities when teams win pennants or championships.
Kudos to the Phillie fans for having fun, and not giving the great city of Philadelphia a black eye!
Now, think back 15 years, and think about who you where then, and fast forward to today.
In 1993, I was 27, dating my future wife, and just bought my 1st house. I was playing a ton of competitive street hockey, and not running. Hitting the bars every weekend, just enjoying the care free, little responsibility lifestyle that you lead in your 20's!
Now 15 years later, I've been married for 13 years, and have 2 sons, lost my mother, bought and sold my 1st house.
We've been in our home for 12 years now, and bought a shore house just about 3 years ago. I have spent the better part of 2008 training to run a marathon. I play the occasional street hockey game, but enjoy coaching my oldest son in the sports he enjoys!
Boy how time flies!
I know it's cliche', but enjoy today, because to quote John Mellencamp "Days turn to minutes & minutes to memories...".
Looking ahead, maybe we'll talk about what was going on in 1980, IF a championship happens.
But after all, this is Philadelphia we are talking about, so the bottom is going to fall anytime.
PS..
Anyone who was watching the games in LA, are you as happy as I am , that I don't have to look at Mary Hart anymore?!! Her, Pat Sajak, Penny Marshall, they got probably more airtime than Manny did! Good riddance to them!

I am psyched!!! I know that probably doesn't make sense to you since I am a Yankee fan but once we were out I decided to route for the Phillies.
On this day in 1993 I was probably a very miserable person. I was recovering from my facial reconstruction surgery and was still not coping with the loss of my best friend. It is weird cause the other night I talked about this and how far I have come since that time. I look at passing time differently then a lot of people. I know things will just get better as time goes on.
Like you, I am delighted that the Phillies won. On a personal level, I never liked Manny and it was a good riddance.
Oh man - 1993 was the year that I first moved to New Jersey from Washington, D.C.
GO PHILS!!!
LOL, I was cracking up about Mary Hart and Pat Sajak too. Don't forget TIm Allen!
I have a weird feeling the Phillies are going to take it all the way. You know they put that mini statue of William Penn in the Comcast building this year! So maybe the "Curse of William Penn" is broken!
As far as Oct/1993...I had just started my freshmen year of college in Tampa (Hello Devil Rays...weird connection). I was partying WAAAAAY too much, about 20 lbs heavier and by no means a runner.
Wow, time does fly...
Totally agree on the Mary Hart thing... Good riddance! And congrats on the Phillies get back to the WS, especially after Joe Carter's walk-off homer that ended their dreams 15 year ago in Toronto. I will be cheering for the Phils whoever meets them from the AL, and in particular Matt Stairs, the good ship Canuck who is likely to have at least another memorable pinch hit in the big finale!
Oh yeah, in 1993 I was in second year of my undergrad, and watching the WS at a college bar with the entire swim team. I don't remember much about the game(s), except Joe Carter's homer in the last one. No amount of booze could have washed that memory away! Sorry for the bad memory from a Phillies fan's perspective, but maybe someone can hit a walk-off this year to win it - I'm hoping for Matt Stairs, but anyone will be fine of course.
Oh yeah, ( man I'm a spaz!) one other memory: John Kruk spitting tobacco juice all over himself, and Lenny Dykstra looking WAAAAAYYYYY too muscular...
Bad rap or not, Philadelphia fans are a loyal & passionate bunch. I'd have a whole bunch cheering me on the sidelines anyday (then listen to DNL & Howard Eskin rip me a new one the next day!).
Congrats on a well deserved trip to the W.S.
Can we all agree now that Joe Torre is totally overrated.
Congrats to you and your Phillys. The only cool thing about having the Dodgers win would have been for Joe Torre.
I cant wait for the WS to start.Go Phils!
How cool it would be to be living in Philly right now. Man I feel the excitement for ya.
