A FRIGGIN' FREEZIN' 6.2 MILES on the TRAILS!

The Devil made me run today! As you can see by my indoor thermometer, it was 66.6 inside my kitchen, and a warm -1.3 outside at 6:30am this morning!
When we hit the trails this morning, I can honestly say it wasn't fun... at first.
My fingers & toes where instantly numb! The toes felt as if I hit them, they would just break off.
This had to be the coldest run I have ever done. The local weather numb nuts say this is the coldest it's been in 5 years.

While it was damn cold, it was a beautiful sunrise over the lake.

We ran to the dam and back. When we got to the dam, it was filled with Canadian Geese, and I swear , with the racket they were making, it sounded as though they were laughing at the 8 of us, out there in the frigid tundra of Mercer County Park.

The garmin had us at 6.2 miles & 1 hour for the run, but I must have hit the button, and missed at least a 1/2 mile of trails. We ran this a bit faster then usual. I guess Nate wanted this over quickly.

I don't know what is harder, running in the humid summer's here in NJ, or this bone chilling weather.

Good for you for getting outdoor runs in during such a deep freeze! I have been running indoors!

I think I prefer the summer heat over the winter chill. At least in January I do...ask me again in August though! ;)

I'd prefer the winter chill - I can bundle up for that. The heat & humidity though - can't run nekkid.

I think the cold is harder...that's why I ran inside today!

I'll run in the cold any day.

For me, there's no joy in running in heat & humidity. I'm still shaking my head about the Chicago fiasco.

I agree with Hurley. I think that you're addicted to the trails now.

I forgot to mention--nice photos! It's amazing that the camera didn't freeze.

I like running in the cold, but getting dressed in the morning is hard.

I almost got up at 6:30, but ended up sleeping in... I still had a nice run though.

I ran this morning and it was definitely cold. I could hardly talk right!

Yeah, the 28 degrees this morning felt tropical after yesterday.

Does 8 include the dog?

You found seven other people to run with in yesterday's freezing temperatures? What do they put in the water in Mercer County? LSD?

And in the morning? You know, it warms up to almost the teens later in the day, which is balmy by comparison.

I'm glad you found running, Flyers26, because you're KUH-RAY-ZEE and if you didn't have running, that kinda crazy would have only one other possible outlet:

Spree killing.

I, um ... mean that as a compliment, believe it or not.

In fact, I myself also prefer the cold to the heat of summer. Maybe by summer, I'll be well enough to run again.

O - and if joyRuN thinks you "can't run nekkid", she obviously hasn't met my son.

It was definitely a cold one out there this weekend. Good job getting out there for a run.

I definitely prefer the colder weather myself over the heat and humidity.

Crazy. I love the pic of the thermometer. Totally insane and awesome.

I was wondering the same thing this weekend: which is worse summer running or winter running. I came to the conclusion that while I have become fatigued, dehydrated, and sweated a phone to death during the summer, I have never done any of these during the winter. Those first two miles are always the worst, but once that internal furnace gets going you magically become fine.

BRRR! Not having the opportunity to run in the cold very often, it is kind of fun for me. But if I had to choose I'll take the heat. I never hesitate to go in the heat, I always have a hard time getting out the door in the 40's, which is warm by your standards.
